Orcadian writer and storyteller, Tom Muir, MBE, with his wife and creative partner, Rhonda, is crafting an unusual, entertaining and culturally vital book.
Together with the extremely talented Hester Aspland, Tom and Rhonda are making and publishing Tales in the Landscape - a whimsical story-guide through the Orkney Mainland.
Along with Tom's local stories, Tales in the Landscape will be amply graced with Hester's gorgeous illustrations, bringing the tales to life, as they deserve.
Archive and full-color photos will further enhance this book celebrating Orkney's storied landscape.
You can read the whole story on our Crowdfunder page.
A peedie story in the landscape
We're crowdfunding to raise money to pay Hester fairly for her beautiful illustrations for this book. With the help of many kind friends (see our wall of thank you below) we've reached our initial target!
Thanks to this early success, we've been encouraged to add a "stretch" target, which allows additional parts of our project to be funded during the remainder of our campaign.
Stage one of the stretch funding is to commission even more of Hester's images for Tales in the Landscape, as our original target is base level to enable a minimum of Hester's incredible artwork.
A maximum would be so much better!
The exciting news is that we're planning a second volume of Tales in the Landscape to follow closely on the heels of the first, this time featuring locations and tales in Orkney's north and south isles.
We're going to ask Hester to illustrate this upcoming book as well - and again, we'd love for the illustrations to be many and lavish.
Another peedie tale in the landscape
With Tom retiring early on half pay, your encouraging support truly does make all the difference in our being able to produce these special books and make them what they deserve to be.
We can hardly express in words our gratitude to every one of you, our friends, who have joined us in making these books come to life.
From our hearts, we thank you.
Dedicated to each of you kind and generous souls, you have made this book possible.
We give you our deepest thanks.
Tom and Rhonda
